No one person can know the truth to any of these debates both of these authors have put out there. They both have statistics and authors backing up what they think. No opinion is wrong here, if a woman is interested in Math or Science and she wants to pursue a career there should be nothing stopping her, the same goes for a man. We have luckily been born into a generation where a women can do any job a man can if she pleases. So lastly, I ask the question, Do employers hire men over women when they see the same qualifications for each?

Biological differences in Math and Science
Are there less women in careers of math and science because of biological factors , No. Math & Science is something that is learned , not something we are born knowing. If men are biologically set to succeeded in Math & Science then wouldn't every single one of them be in a Math & Science career? I agree with Spelke when she says one of the reasons she believes women are not in Math or Science careers is because of societies pressures. I believe many men and women pick careers that they see other men and women succeeding in. This may stem from what their own parents, or other family members have succeeded in. Although, I believe that SOME girls and boys are different in some behaviors ( from what I have experienced growing up) I don't believe that we are biologically tuned to certain careers.

In today's society I think that there is such an importance for women to be treated equally and have the same opportunities that men have that they are actually considered for jobs even though they are less qualified.
ReplyDeleteIF men were to be better at math and science I don't think that they would all have a career in math and science. What you do with your future should be based on your interests, not just what you're best at.
