Math and Science

Until the most recent decade I believe that men have dominated the science and math field. However, I do not think it is due to their biological make-up. I think that it is due to the fact that men decades ago were always taught to be the provider and were allowed to go get an education. At a young age boys were given connects, building toys, or some other toy that involves a scientific or math strategy. This allowed boys at a young age to start developing and using their logistic side of the brain.
However, girls were given babies, dolls, and other toys that allowed them to pretend take care of a family. This then foreshadowed what a young girls career would be...a housekeeper. Girls were not allowed to finish school and go out into the world of multiple career choices. But, as the decades have changed women were allowed to finish school, get a degree, and pursue any career that they felt was possible.
This is why I believe that some people would say that men statistically hold more jobs in math in science, but what a lot of people forget or refuse to look at is the background of the situation. What do people consider to be a career in math and science? For instance, my mom is a nurse and my dad owns his own business as a bar owner. My mom did not directly study chemistry, biology, or physics. She had a program that was directly laid out for her and she took the classes that were necessary for the degree. So my mom did not come out of college with a M.D. after her name but she is a nurse and in order to become a nurse she had to take certain science and math classes.
So my questions are:
1) What do people consider to be careers of math and science? If nursing is considered a field of science then how are women said to hold fewer science careers when it is statistically proven that more women are said to hold nursing careers?

2) For the future do you believe that the reason why more people are going into the math and science field is due to the amount of money that is said to be earned?
